About a dozen birders joined me for today's birdwalk at Matheson Hammock. Birding was rather slow, but we persevered. We eventually ended up with six warbler species (Common Yellowthroat, American Redstart, Cape May Warbler, Northern Parula, Blackpoll Warbler, and Black-throated Blue Warbler). Gray Catbird was the most common migrant. We also found three Great Crested Flycatchers. The Red-headed Woodpeckers were not in evidence. We saw a close Pileated Woopecker on the service road and other on a telephone phone.
A bird was heard calling that sounded like a Common Ground-Dove. I've never seen one at Matheson and we were unable to confirm its ID.
Some of the usual exotics were also present: Yellow-chevroned Parakeet, Red-masked Parakeet, Orange-winged Amazon, Hill Myna, and heard-only Indian Peafowl.
Non-bird species of note included Yellow Rat Snake, Tokay Gecko, and Basilisk sp.
