I spent about an hour Thursday evening and another 4 1/2 hours Friday morning searching for him but without success.
On Thursday, I joined two couples from Marco Island who were looking. They thought they heard him call once from the south side of the road and once from the north side. They never saw him though.
On Friday, I was joined by a number of people including Brian Hope, Larry Manfredi, Sue Young, and a couple from New Jersey (I can't remember their names). None of us were able to relocate the bird. I and the NJ couple thought we heard it call once from the south side of the road and the same couple thought they heard it again at the corner of the road into the Visitors' Center.
When I left, no one had seen him but the NJ couple was still holding tough. I hope they'll post something here if they actually found the bird.
Rick
P.S. The Eastern Screech Owl is still poking his head out of the telephone pole by the Bus parking lot across from the road into the Marsh Trail parking lot. He gave everyone good views.
