It's been a while since I posted - things have been pretty quiet lately - but not only are things picking up , but there are also a few items of interest that I wanted to share. First, the Great Horned Owl has been spending most days in the pine tree next to the bathrooms. One hardly needs to get out of the car to see it!
Also, a pair of Summer Tanagers has been frequenting the parking lot area. The male is currently half-colored up and looks spectacular. Nandays are a little more elusive, but still reliable, as are Pileated Woodpeckers. Previous week warblers include multiple Praries and Common Yellowthroat and individual sightings of B-T Blue, Prothonotary, Cape May, Pine, Redstart, Nthn Parula and Nthn Waterthrush. Great-crested Flycatcher was also seen yesterday.
I haven't been out to the nest lately, but the Dark-morph RT Hawk is still around. Other recent raptors include imm. Broad- Winged, Sharp-shinned and Kestrel.
