8 birders met under threatening skies for a migration walk at AD Barnes this morning. While the expected rains never materialized, for much of the walk it appeared birds wouldn't, either. Through the parking lot oaks, around Homeless Hammock and along the lakefront, we spent inordinate amounts of time looking at Collared-Doves, Blue Jays, and Common Gallinules. Even the one good bird we had sang twice, far off, and never appeared--a Spot-breasted Oriole.

Everything changed as we headed into the Rooster area. Warblers suddenly appeared as if by magic. A Magnolia appeared first, and while we were looking at him up popped a Hooded Warbler! Searching the trees, we quickly found American Redstart, Prairie, Black-throated Blue, Black-and-white, and Northern Parula. We also got on a FOS Blackpoll Warbler. Going into the nature trails up to the LAC buildings we added several Cape May Warblers, as well as repeats of the Rooster area birds. We ended the day with 9 species of warblers.
