This morning on a rising tide, there was an American Golden-Plover on Crandon Beach. There were 260+ Black-bellied Plovers also on the flat between life guard stands 9 and 10.
The golden-plover was in basic plumage; brown tone instead of grayish appearance of Black-bellied Plovers; very slim, delicate bill; prominent white supercilium and long wings that projected past the tail and could be seen crossed when the bird fed. It looked "long-legged," perhaps because of its upright posture and slim body. Brownish rump was noted when the bird stretched its wing.
