Earlier today, I happened to see a bird picking Firebush berries in my backyard. Seeing it from the backside, since it was hanging vertically in dense cover, it looked like a Mockingbird. This interested me, since it has been over a month since a Mockingbird visited.
While watching the bird, I thought I saw a yellow flash. I did! This bird was about the size of a Mockingbird, but its head was yellow (sort of faded), with a yellow breast. Perhaps it might have been a Spot Breasted Oriole that returned to the neighborhood. It stayed quite hidden in the firebush, eating berries. It then was seen foraging on the ground. I did not hear it call, but I watched it preen in the deep shade of the bamboo.
It was definitely yellow, I did not see orange, as I would expect on a Spot Breasted Oriole. Would a Spot Breasted Oriole be yellow?
I will have to look again tomorrow, and hope it will return. Perhaps it may even cooperate so I can photograph it.
