Had the opportunity to take my son with me today to Green Cay and we had some fun looking at all the hundreds of birds we saw. I tallied 52 birds in 2hrs.
The highlights were:
Yellow-Crowned Night Heron in full breeding colors and mating display
2 dozen Black-bellied Whistling Ducks flying around
Green Heron doing mating call
Roseate Spoonbills - 4 of them (by the end of April sometimes you may spot up to 30)
Lots of Gray Catbirds
Purple Martins lots flying around
Palm Warbler still present
Purple Gallinule -2
Brown-headed Cowbird -2 by the entrance feeder
I did not see many warblers nor did I spend much time looking for them.
Earlier in the day i drove around Loxahatchee Wildlife Refuge and had:
Caspian Tern - 2
4 Great Horned Owls (2 adults +2 juvies)
Prairie warbler - 1
Blue-headed Vireo singing -1
Carolina Wren -1 singing loud & proud (close up shots)
Northern Parula - A few around singing away
A Great Crested Flycatcher calling at a distance
Ducks- not looking good at all (it never did this year anyway)
Dozens of Gray Catbirds
