He's just wrong.

The woodpecker is tapping too fast for all the taps to be caught on the video. At 22 taps/sec, it requires a minimum of 44 frames/sec (a pair for each tap, one in the up position, one striking the tree) to capture all the taps on video. If the woodpecker is pausing between the taps, as it seems by the sound, it will take many more frames to capture the whole thing as many frames will just get the woodpecker in the up position.

It could easily take 200 frames/sec to reliably catch the woodpecker taps.

Because the Pileated taps more slowiy, its easier to catch the taps on video.
