During a early evening stroll through the meditation garden at Mary Help of Christians Church in Parkland I was "buzzed" by a dark shape, then heard a clicking noise which was later supported by the unmistakeable whinny of the screech owl. A quick scan of a flashlight through the bushes on either side of me revealed 2,4,6,8,10 yellow eyes and comical, inquisitive, faces. Mom and her 4 babies "out-and-about". I may be meditating, but she and they were feeding and I was perceived as a threat. Well, that answered the one year old question: "Will screech owls nest in a owl box purchased from Wild birds Unlimited?" the answers was yes! The parish has just added 4 more owls to the great outdoors, and given back a little to creation. As my esteemed colleague says, "it's a good life.."
