You're welcome, Justin! I agree afternoons can be good as well. I haves seem a few male painted buntings but really difficult taking their pictures, females more cooperative if you're fast on the trigger. What color was your grosbeak - mostly blue or transitional colors (mix of brown, purple, and blue?).
The female bird if it was buff/beige color is almost certain to be a female Indigo bunting. If you want to send a picture to me or post it - i can confirm if you wish.
The Pileated in early Spring till Summer is very common there - i have seen between 4-8 at a time.
