help with Cardinal nest

Cardinals have just started building a nest in my Cocoplum hedge - but it is in thin cover less than a foot from a gate latch and 3 feet up from the ground. There is foot traffic and disturbances by the gate latch etc. Should I let nature take it's course? I feel worried that it is a bad location -
