I first went to Lucky Hammock and saw a few birds hiding in the trees. There was 1 Red Shoulder Hawk, Red-winged Blackbirds, a Shrike, mockingbirds, Grackles and American Crows. There was a dozen Black Vultures huddled together setting next to the road which seemed to be avoiding the high winds.

The fields were fairly empty, at least what I had the ability to see. The grass was high in all of the fields. So I drove into one field on a road and hundreds of doves flew out of the grass. I must assume that there probably was plenty to see, just hidden well.

I was going to go into ENP but they had closed the park due to the Emergency . At the community park in the middle of the fields just before you get to ENP I saw a flock of something fly into a tree. They flew into the tree together and left the tree the same way.

The spots on one and the color of the legs confuses me. Could they be Grackles molting? Photo

Then I went to the field by the race track and saw many egrets, heron and black necked stilts. Many of the black necked stilts were juvenile. I saw one very small plover (I think a Wilson s) but it flew before I could ID it. I saw enough to know it wasn t a Killdeer.

I then went to Bay Front Park and saw several white Ibis and a few least tern and a pair of Magnificent Frigate birds. I also saw a Brown Pelican balled up setting on the end of one of the docks. He appeared to be trying not to be blown away. The wind was rocking him back and forth. A very interesting sight.

I then went to Black Point and saw a few Ibis, Least Tern and another tern I didn t recognize. It was about twice the size of a least had a dark back and a dark bill. It didn t hang around very long ??? Sooty Tern???

I only saw a few gulls all day and they were laughing. :)

I had a great time and learned a few things about what birds do in storms.

Trey
