I birded the fields around C-357 this morning just outside of Chekika.
The best bird was an immature male Blue Grosbeak (early migrant?) in the brushy area near the entrance. It was associating with Painted and Indigo Buntings.
There were a ton of sparrows in the area, dominated by Savannah and Grasshoper, as activity has picked up from when I was at this location in January. The following birds of note were seen:
Clay-colored Sparrow (7)
Lincoln's Sparrow (2)
White-crowned Sparrow (1)
American Robin (20)
White-tailed Kite (2)
Peregrine Falcon (1)
Rufous-sided Towhee (4)
N. Bobwhite (1)
At the Chekika boardwalk, I added Sora and a couple N. Waterthrush.
It seems that most Swamp Sparrows that were previously in the area have departed.
