: Where is it exactly on Research Road that the White Tailed Kites are seen?

The area where the White-tailed Kites have been nesting and where they can often be seen perched during the spring and summer is in the area of brush and small trees near the end of Research Road on the east side of the road.

To get to Research Road going south from the Everglades National Park main entrance you make a left turn off the Main Park Road at the Royal Palm Hammock spur road and after going a little under a mile turn right at the three way intersection. Take this road for about half a mile to the stop sign and turn right again. Follow this road west for about four miles where it turns south and go about ¾ mile to where the area of brush and small trees begins on the east (left) side of the road. The kites usually perch in the northern half of this area about two hundred yards off the road. Monday morning the kites made several flights to and from the northwest. The land off the road right of way in this area is closed to the public so don t leave the roadway for a closer look.
