While looking for butterflies in Tavernier today I noticed a few martins zipping by overhead. Unfortunately they passed my location too quickly for me to get a really good look, but I think it's safe to assume that they were Purple Martins. They started kettling about 1/2 mile to the south of me, then drifted on out of sight. While I was watching the martins an Anhinga joined in flock.
Stevenson and Anderson lists the early fall dates for martins in the keys as 8 June from the Tortugas, 11 June from Key West and 21 June from the upper keys, so I guess these guys were right on time. It's hard to know what the Anhinga was doing there.
