Seventeen birders joined today's walk covering areas in South Dade which included Lucky Hammock/Annex, C-111, Homestead Regional Airport, Castellow Hammock, Cutler Wetlands, and Black Point. I had to quit at 2:00 after our stop at Cutler Wetlands so Brian took over for the last stop at Black Point. Highlights included two uncooperative Brown-crested Flycatchers at the Annex and Lucky Hammock, Least Flycatcher at the Annex, White-tailed Kite at Lucky Hammock, Tropical and Western Kingbirds between Aerojet Rd and the C-111, Very cooperative Burrowing Owls at the airpost, Rufous Hummingbird at Castellow, and 4 Avocets at Cutler Wetlands. Lowlights were missed Ash-throated Flycatcher, Vermilion Flycatcher, and Short-tailed Hawk (what?). It's possible the Vermilions have left. Thanks to all who joined us today. Despite our misses, we still had a great time.
