Southeastern Virignia Key

I birded the southeastern portion of Virginia Key this morning accessed through Virginia Beach Drive. There were some decent birds though nothing shocking.

There were 40 or so American Goldfinch feeding in the fruiting trees around the ponds/train tracks area. The same area also had a Summer Tanager.

I also found 4 Grasshopper Sparrows in the dune restoration area along the shoreline northeast of the park. It was the first time I have seen this species in the area or near the coast for that matter. I flushed a larger sparrow that looked interesting but couldnt' get on it.

Finally, there was an adult Reddish Egret feeding in the lagoon area seen from the boardwalk.
