unusual bird

In the preserve area behind my home I have seen this week, a small bird that looks like a stilt except that its head is banded with white striping. Could this be a juvenile? It seems to have settled in behind my home. I can see it walking in the shallow water, and on land and in the trees. Any thoughts on whether it could be a banded stilt?!
