At Spanish River's Bird Observation Area Sunday, other than all the great birds I spotted, I also spied a feral cat sneaking through looking for a bird dinner - I got a photo of him, then chased it off.
My father had a cat in California that was hugely overweight, and it was on a strict diet to try to help it - nothing seemed to work. One day on a walk, we saw a fat black cat sitting at the base of a tree where hundreds of birds had gathered - and whenever a bird dropped caution to the wind and landed on the ground to get a nut that had fallen, the cat pounced and had a meal. It was his cat...supposedly an INDOOR cat. They discovered the cat had found an opening in the adjoining sunroom in a screen mesh up by the roof, and was heading out multiple times a day to go on the hunt. It was probably consuming several birds a day.
