Yesterday I hit Green Cay for the day, and today decided to stop by Spanish River park (Boca Raton) for an hour or two after some errands. I'd never gone to the 'bird observation area' mentioned here a few times and wanted to see what would be there in the afternoon. I was VERY surprised at how many birds were there today.

Grey catbirds numbered in the tens
Northern mockingbirds about the same
Northern cardinals - about 4 or 5
Blue jays - about a dozen
Red-bellied woodpeckers - 6
Palm warblers - 4
Yellow-rumped warblers - 2
Prairie warblers - 2
Painted buntings - 3
Northern parulas - 4
White-eyed vireos - 2
Blue-grey gnatcatchers - 6

I had expected the mockingbirds, jays, cardinals, and some palm warblers, but was quite surprised at some of the other warblers, buntings, and gnatcatchers which I hadn't ever seen in Spanish River before. I will definitely need to be visiting this spot much more often.
