Decided to enjoy the cool morning by heading out to the C357 trail at dawn this morning. There was a smoky haze from a fire somewhere, but I was rewarded almost immediately by a White-tailed Kite in the snag near the water hole.
Savannah Sparrows and Palm Warblers dominated the sightings. However, I was able to find single Lincoln's Sparrow, White-crowned Sparrow, and on the way out a Clay-colored Sparrow. I heard (but never could see a couple of Grasshopper Sparrows as well).
At one point I watched a Phoebe fly over the trail and into a tangle--where a Dickcissel was sitting! Might not have seen it if not for the Phoebe!
On the way out, there 2 kites sitting in the large pine, and the Tropical Kingbird that has been fairly regular for awhile was in the area between the two levees, perching on very low branches. It was odd looking down on a kingbird...
Afterward I went over to Chekika, but it was very quiet.
