A total of 42,554 birds of 142 species (125 countable, 17 non-countable) were tallied during the Miami Christmas Bird Count on December 15, 2012. This year s count coincided with the unprecedented movement of Razorbills along Florida s Atlantic coast, with an estimated 600 birds counted within the circle during the day. Black Scoters, Northern Gannets and Common Loons also were moving through in large numbers; high counts for all three species were established during this year s CBC. In addition to Razorbill, several other species were seen during the count for the first time: Snow Goose, Manx Shearwater, Parasitic Jaeger, Hairy Woodpecker (seen count week), Tufted Titmouse, and Western Spindalis. Other unusual species seen were Snow Goose, Brown Booby, Great Black-Hawk, Tennessee Warbler (seen count week), Worm-eating Warbler, Western Tanager (seen count week) and Bronzed Cowbird. Other species establishing high counts were Egyptian Goose, White Ibis, Lesser Black-backed Gull, Royal Tern, White-winged Dove, White-eyed Parakeet, Chestnut-fronted Macaw, White-winged Parakeet, Loggerhead Shrike, Black-throated Blue Warbler, Prairie Warbler, Black-and-white Warbler and Boat-tailed Grackle. The only two species establishing low counts were Black-bellied Plover and Ruddy Turnstone.
