With no response here, Linda and I have sent pictures and descriptions to several knowledgeable birders.
andy Komito weighed in as well(via email to Linda):
Your two candidates are either the Ash-throated Flycatcher or the La Sagra's
Flycatcher. The first of your pictures shows a complete and clear view of
the back and upper tail structure. The tail appears mostly black except for
the central rectrices and upper portions near the rump which show areas
of rufous. This is in keeping with La Sagra's. The Ash-throated would show
much more rufous in the tail.
The second picture of the area between the crown and upper back shows a
pale area described by some authorities as a partial collar. The tail's
appearance here is consistent with the comments already made regarding
picture number 1.
Picture 3 is also a very good picture which gives a 3/4 view of the black bill.
While this view could be misleading regarding the size and shape of the bill,
it nevertheless appears slimmer than that of the Ash-throated. This view
also shows a slightly darker crown when contrasted with the paler face
and paler adjacent areas. Most notable is the total lack of yellow on the
belly or undertail coverts.
Picture 4 is a really good composite view of all three previous pictures. It
all looks to me like a good La Sagra's Flycatcher.
