First sight and sound of nighthawks, at Mary Help of Christians church grounds Parkland florida, Sawgrass and University 4/14/2002 at 7:15 P.M. following a day of frequent rain. Looks like they are moving north. Also large numbers of white ibis passing overhead in all directions. Mockingbirds are nesting, 6 in 10 acres, brown thrashers (2) are nest building, red-winged blackbirds (1) is petulantly guarding her nest in a water oak, woodpeckers are trying to choose between three sites; boat-tailed grackle made fatal error of nesting in a pongam before it leaf dropped. It really stands out! Crows and fish ravens are very active checking the entire landsite gleaning eggs and baby birds. Perigrine falcon buzzed the Earth Day celebration last Saturday. Warblers are now absent but mottled ducks are still in the canal and one grebe still hangs out.
