The photo is what you will see when you get to the end of Snakebite. I took this photo a few months ago at low tide and didn't see much.
Last Saturday morning very early, Toe and I went to Snake Bite and saw lots of shore birds, including dozens of Roseate Spoonbills.
We arrived at Snakebite at 5:45am and started our walk. We both wore much insect repellant and wore long sleeve shirts expecting the worst from the mosquitoes. To great pleasure, on our trip to the end of Snakebite we barely noticed any mosquitoes.
We arrived at the boardwalk at about 6:10 and enjoyed several hours watching shore birds. It was between low and high tide with the tide on its way in.
We saw:
Least Tern
Royal Tern
Reddish Egret
Great Heron
Heard a Mangrove Cuckoo
Prairie Warbler
Dunlin
Gull-billed Tern
Marbled Godwit
Western Sandpiper
Black-bellied Plover
Roseate Spoonbill
Willet
Black Necked Stilt
Swallow Tailed Kite
Brown Pelican
Great Blue Heron
Tricolor Heron
Take a scope if you have one. We didn't have one with us. I did have my camera with a 560mm lens and 10x50 binoculars. Flamingos are usually located further out in the flats. With the tide almost in the shore birds were closer to shore.
The trip back to the car was annoying due to the many mosquitoes. But with the repellant and long sleeved shirts we only were bitten a few times. They were swarming around both of us, but didn't bite very often.
Good Luck
We had a blast an I plan to do it again later in the year.
