Since the board is really quite, I will post this. Yesterday, in response to Rock Jetty's find of the Bronzed and Shiny Cowbirds on Mowry Drive (SW 320st), I went out there after work. Upon arriving at Mowry Drive, about 1/2 mile west of 137 Avenue, I quickly found 3 Brown-headed Cowbirds on the south side, across from the heavy equipment. Just a few yards away, there was an adult Shiny Cowbird perched on a grass blade. Rock saw a molting juvenile, so there are more than one Shiny Cowbirds around. I was frustrated by the absence of the Bronzed Cowbird (the one bird I wanted to see!) for about an hour. Just as I was about to give up, I saw a suspect bird out on the field slowly working its way towards me. I had seen this same bird earlier, but it was too far to ID. As soon as it got close enough, I saw the red eyes, and bingo! Bronzed Cowbird. Maybe I'll need to get a spotting scope to avoid further frustrations. Besides the Black-necked Stilts and Red-winged Blackbirds, the only other birds were one Semipalmated Sandpiper and a bunch of Common Nighthawks. No White-rumps today, but did see one on Sunday. Bronzed and Shiny Cowbirds in the same spot deserves some interest. Now get out there!
