I observed Common Nighthawks in a divebombing display about 2 weeks ago over my house unfortunately due to a termite swarm. They produced a hollow whirling sound like if you took a thin piece of metal and swung it around real fast. It was amazing to watch. According to the National Geographic field guide, this is part of a courtship display by the male Common Nighthawk towards the female. Maybe the Antellean do a similar display. Paddy
: Last night I had four Antellean Nighthawks at the south end of Marathon Airport. They were very vocal. Had several nice flybys. One flew right over me less than 60 feet away. One was doing some serious divebombing. I don't knw if it was breeding display or just normal behavior. But, it was very facinating to watch.
