I arrived at the Government Cut Jetty at 11:30, just in time for a brief, but very windy squall to blow through. While weathering the wind & rain, I observed several Northern Gannets and a flock of 35 birds that were either Scoters or Razorbills, but were too far away to confirm. They were about the same size, but they didn't show any white while flying, so maybe not Razorbills. They were flying in a close formation just above the water with rapid wingbeats.

After the squall, 4 Razorbills were observed at close range by the jetty, swimming and diving. About 10 minutes later, Robin, Bill Boeringer, Carlos, Larry, Phillip, and another birder arrived, so we picked up a few more Razorbills. A few of the birds were swimming in close proximity to a few of the surfers at South Beach, then they would work their way along side the jetty.

As I was leaving, Jeanette, Bob and Alice arrived with 2 other birders and Bob picked up a couple of more swimming in the surf. I hope I didn't leave any one out of this great day at South Beach, but I'm sure all who were present were quite happy with the views. Other birds seen at Government Cut were:
Northern Gannets
American Coot
Razorbills
Brown Pelicans
Scoters (too far to get a positive)
Laughing Gulls
Sanderlings (along the beach)
Palm Warblers (in the dunes along the beach)
