Today I birded Kendall Indian Hammocks around noon. The highlight was a solitary American Robin in the canopy of the western edge of the main hammock. It vocalized occasionally and was constantly being chased off by a Mockingbird. Also saw a light Short-tailed Hawk in the main hammock feeding on a good-sized bird I couldn't identify. The prey had a long feather that was black with round white spots similar to a cuckoo's underside of tail. Other highlights were RT Hummingbirds, Eastern Phoebe, Blue-headed Vireo, BG Gnatcatcher, Yellow-rumped Warbler, Pine Warbler, Black-and-white Warbler, Palm Warbler and Prairie Warbler.

Yesterday I was asked by the Village of El Portal to lead a bird walk for their Little River Festival, from 7-9 AM. About ten beginner birders showed up. It was very nice as they were curious about everything and were quite enthusiastic about most birds seen, even if common to a regular birder. Nice gardens in the area and many residents have bird feeders out. Some of the outstanding birds for me were

Osprey (with prey)
Broad-winged Hawk
Red-shouldered Hawk
A. Kestrel
White-winged Dove
Ruby-throated Hummingbird (the group missed this one)
Palm Warbler
Many exotics:
Common/Indian Peafowl (quite a few seen)
Orange-winged Parrot
White-winged Parakeet (2)
Red-masked Parakeet
White-eyed Parakeet (3 at someone's feeder and almost flew directly into us they were spooked by the Red-shouldered Hawk)

Later today had a Magnificent Frigatebird near the Redlands.
