On Thursday and Friday the Western Spindalis put on a good show in the location near where I originally found it. It was however not seen on Saturday despite many hours of searching.

While approaching the pay booth on Virginia Key on Friday morning, we lucked into seeing a perched Great Black Hawk. It was on a dead Australian Pine on the left side of the road not too far from the pay booth. It posed for photos and then flew to a dead pine very close to the pay booth on the right side of the road. This bird or several birds have been seen in south Florida for many, many years. I have looked several times for this bird but have never seen it in the last 16-years or so. No one knows where this bird or others have come from.

This bird has been a nemesis bird for me, I have looked for it many, many times for many years and have never seen it! It sure was nice to finally get such great looks at the bird!
