This afternoon I went to Birch after work and met up with Andreas from Washington. He saw the bird yesterday, and with my failed attempt to locate it Saturday, I stuck with him hoping he'll take me to the bird. Three other birders joined us. No sooner had we started searching the service road at the north end, the bird made its appearance. We spent a good half hour getting excellent looks. It also called for us, which was a real plus. Thanks Andreas! With this said, and based on the looks I got at the bird by Deering Estate yesterday, I am now 100% sure this bird is another La Sagras. See Rock Jetty's post from 5/9. I plan to put some effort in the Deering area in hopes of relocating the bird. I wish I could have spent more time with the bird when I saw it, especially to determine which area it is using most frequently, but my five year old comes first. If it is found, I will post immediately. Would be nice to have one much closer to home. Thick-billed, Connecticut, and La Sagras within 3 days? I'm still trying to figure out which brand of celebratory libations is worthy of this! Cheers!
PS: Good luck to all who are going to Ft. DeSoto to get the Kirtlands!
