What seemed like a slow day at Loxahatchee turned out to be quite productive. We spent the majority of the time looking for "little" birds in three general areas: around the Visitors' Center, along Lee Rd (especially in the line of cypresses approaching the boat ramp parking lot), and on the east edge of the Marsh Trail.

What we initially thought to be a Black-and-White Warbler turned out to be a Yellow-Throated Warbler -- but a Black-and-White did show itself later in amongst the Palms and Yellow-rumpeds. The Ruby-throated Hummingbird that we've seen lately behind the Visitors' Center was absent but we had one at the south gate in the Marsh Trail parking lot right after finding a female Painted Bunting on the east side of the canal in that same area.

We tried to find something unusual in the several kettles of vultures moving south but could come up only with a Wood Stork or two (a couple of others were seen earlier by themselves). While scanning the kettles, we had a nice fly-by of two Roseatte Spoonbills which we hoped would land in the C6 impoundment but didn't.

Similar to last weeks recapitulation, we came up with 49 bird species -- 1 short of my target of 50. When I got back home, I had an email from one of the people that had to leave early who said that she had, in addition to some other things that were already on our list, an Ovenbird. (You might remember the earlier trip report about the Ovenbird-in-hand.) So we made our 50! Next week we go for more -- More!, More!!, More!!!

Until next Wednesday,

Rick
