Harrisella porrecta (Luer, 272-273) Florida's smallest orchid now in bloom at Hoechoka Hammock. This plant is found often in and around the hammock but is extremely difficult to locate as it resembles a small ball of disorganized roots closely adhering to a branch. The roots are silvery green and chlorophyllus coming forth from a central axis. The plant is also called a "leafless orchid". Put bluntly the plant is just a ball of roots with a flower stem. The roots alone generate the necessary food for the plant. For orchid lovers in the TAS family this is a unique opportunity to see Harrisella up close.....you will need a magnifying glass for a best view and a macro closeup lens for photographs.
Post your interest and an e-mail for an appointment. The blooms (2) should last until December 12
