I visited Tropical Park this morning to see the American Goldfinch that are frequenting the Australian Pines near the southwest side of the park. At least two small flocks of nearly a dozen each were present (and calling frequently). I did not find the MacGillivray Warbler, so I moved on to A.D. Barnes. Birding was pretty slow until I hit a flock just outside the gate to the boardwalk. In one minute I had 10 warbler species as well as several Blue-headed Vireo:
Prairie Warbler
Palm Warbler
Orange-crowned Warbler
Black-throated Blue (male and female)
American Redstart
Ovenbird
Worm-eating Warbler
Magnolia Warbler
Northern Parula
Black-and-white Warbler
I picked up Common Yellowthroat and Pine Warbler elsewhere in the park for a nice 12 warbler December morning.
Tonight I visited Dump Marsh and tallied a few goodies, including the erratic, silent flight of Lesser Nighthawk at 5:50PM. Two Bald Eagles and a Roseate Spoonbill flew by a few minutes earlier.
