Paul Bithorn picked me up this a.m. in search of Carribean vagrants and Connecticut Warblers. A quick stop across North Miami Avenue and 94th street in Miami Shores produced White-winged Parakeets and a Spot-breasted Oriole. We arrived at the Anne Kolb Nature Center just after 8:00 and Washington birders found the Thick-billed Vireo in the center of the parkinglot. Not a shy bird at all, and a life bird for almost everyone there. A couple warbler species were around including Prairie Warbler, as well as Spotted Sandpiper, Chimney Swifts, and Barn Swallow.

On our way to Hugh Taylor Birch State Park, we saw Mottled Duck, Monk and Black-hooded Parakeets, and a Chestnut-fronted Macaw.

At Birch State Park, there was a nice fallout considering it is May 7. There were tons of redstarts, Blackpolls, Ovenbirds, and a handful of Northern Waterthrushes. Many other birders were already there when we arrived. We did not find the Connecticut Warbler, but did find Black-whiskered Vireo, Gray-cheeked Thrush, Veery, and 9 warbler species:
Northern Parula
Cape May Warbler
Black-throated Blue Warbler
Magnolia Warbler- 1
Blackpoll Warbler- ~45
Ovenbird
Northern Waterthrush- 10-15
Common Yellowthroat
American Redstart- ~75

With the Prairie Warbler at Anne Kolb Nature Center, we had 10 warbler species. A Worm-eating Warbler was also seen by others at Birch SP.

Back in Miami Shores, we found two Burrowing Owls (one adult, one imm.) on the west side of N.W. 2 Avenue north of 113th street.
