I saw what I believe to be a Lapland Longspur at the Flamingo campground on Sunday 11/25 at around 4:30 p.m. It was in the tree and shrub area right before the A loop leaving the B/C loop on the bay side of the road. The tree area separates the 2 loops. It was feeding on the ground and then flew up into the shrubs. Sorry for the delay but it was a life bird for me and I conferred with John Boyd to help in the identification. I don't have a picture but when I searched for google images the bird most resembling the bird I saw looked like the first bird on the left side of the third row (Lapland Longspur 9-St. Paul Island, AK-Aug.). The distinctive what I am calling "freckles", small speckles were found above the shoulder and under the chin area. It had a washed out look to it', the colors on the back were muted. It had a creme colored belly. My boys got to see it too and it was number 265 on my son's Atlantic Flyway big year. Let's hope he makes 300.
