This morning in Bill Baggs Cape Florida SP there were numerous American Goldfinches in various sized flocks. Two larger flocks flew south off the tip, then turned around and headed back after about 3 minutes. Perhaps the 12 miles of open water seemed daunting. Goldfinches continued throughout my survey and I stopped counting at 200.

The best sighting was a flock of 8 Pine Siskins, flying fairly low from south to north along the Nature Trail. They were small brown finches, with visible streaking, dark underwings and short, forked tails. They gave their explosive "bewu" flight call and 1 or 2 birds gave the typical siskin "zipper" call. I felt like I was back in Watauga County, NC!

There were also good numbers of Yellow-rumped "Myrtle" Warblers in the park.

Later on Virginia Key North Point, Goldfinches were in abundance, though minus 1 that was a snack for a dark-morph Short-tailed Hawk.
