Now that was some experience, wasn't it? Mom and Dad and the babies all running around chomping on anoles and tree frogs, moths and cockroaches. A virtual feeding frenzy. Too bad for the "little critters"...the screech owls are on the prowl. I always enjoy listening to the "horse whinny" call of these owls but that other call of the hungry babies was a new one for me. The click-click is beak snapping, a trait common to many owls to warn or show distress. Another "birder" saw the mother feed a tree frog to one of the babies on Sunday Friday night. It was "all over" in about 30 seconds. It sure doesn't take the baby owl long to eat a frog.
