Last year, I had the privilege of watching a male immature RT Hummingbird molt into a beautiful adult male. I had noted a small bright white marking on the body above the left leg. This morning, I went outside early to fill my feeders and heard aggressive chattering near my front door. I keep a small single port hummer feeder near my front door. From a distance, I watched what appeared to be a male hummingbird approach the feeder,hover,then fly away without feeding. I then refilled the seed birdfeeders and placed fresh water in the birdbath. As I was about to go inside, I saw the hummingbird feeder port was covered with ants. Dismayed, I now knew the source of the hummers chattering/failure to feed. I grabbed the feeder, quickly cleaning and refilling it, thinking the hummer would probably not be back after seeing the ant lined port. About twenty minutes later, I checked the feeder to see if any hummer action was taking place. There was none yet, so I examined the feeder with my binocs looking for any further ant activity. Then......... I observed a sudden blurred motion followed by the form of a hummer! As I watched it feeding, I realized "IT HAS A WHITE SPOT ABOVE IT'S LEFT LEG" !!! It was an exciting moment. I thought it was highly likely it was the same bird I had last seen in March.
