Four birders met Nancy Freedman and I at 8:00 for the TAS bird walk at this small park in northeast Miami. The cold front last night stopped migrating birds dead in their tracks, causing them to hault their nightly journey and stop at the park. We had eleven warbler species, as well as some other interesting birds. The number of individuals was high, so we were always looking at something.

Red-tailed Hawk
White-eyed Parakeet (heard)
Downy Woodpecker
vireo species
Veery
Gray Catbird
Cedar Waxwing

Northern Parula
Cape May Warbler- four males
Black-throated Blue Warbler
Prairie Warbler
Palm Warbler- in breeding plumage
Blackpoll Warbler- ~40-50
Black-and-white Warbler
American Redstart
Worm-eating Warbler
Northern Waterthrush
Common Yellowthroat

After the walk, my mom and I took one of the group members, Jule, for a look at the Burrowing Owls at Barry University. We had two owls sitting out on their burrow, and then had a Spot-breasted Oriole sitting on it's nest just east of the intersection of 94th Street and N.E. 1st Avenue in Miami Shores. It is in one of the small oaks on the south side of the road.
