I have been in Maine since May, and so have not been able to check lately; but I have never failed to see at least one Purple Swamphen (and usually several) in the wetland in front of the City Furniture building on Hiatus Road in Tamarac (south of McNab, north of Commercial). You can park in the Fire Department parking lot, where there are often swamphens in the small adjoining wetland. Cross the street and walk the sidewalk along the wetland; the southern part of it normally has some, but the northern end, right up to the driveway into City Furniture, is the most reliable area. There are several other very small wetland areas along that street, and at one time or another I've seen swamphens in all of them. Good luck
