I was able to get some birding time in between work and the rain bands, aside from the usual suspects the zoo did not have much bird activity however I was pleasently surprised when I spotted a male Western Tanager. The weather forecast does not look promising for tomorrow but for those who are interested and willing to brave the elements the bird was seen on some Strangler Figs that are located in the Dino Pit area which is directly infront of the entrance to the Wings of Asia Aviary. This area has a cluster of about five to six Strangler Figs, one particular tree is fruiting there is were the bird was feeding and allowed the for some good looks; other species worth mentioning were:
Painted Bunting
Indigo Bunting
Redstart
Ovenbird
Black Throated Blue Warbler
Palm Warbler
Ruby Throated Hummingbird
White Eye Vireo
Red Shoulder Hawk
Catbird (numerous)
