My April 14-16 Dry Tortugas Tour was an excellent one we had 24 species of warbler, 4-species of thrush, 101 species in total. We had west to northwest winds great for birds and cool weather to make birding even more comfortable. Here are some of the highlights:

Masked Booby
Brown Booby
Northern Gannet

MISSISSIPPI KITE! I believe this is the first documented Mississippi Kite for the Dry Tortugas; I was able to get some great photos.

Merlin
Peregrine Falcon
Purple Gallinule
American Golden Plover
8-species of shorebird including Baird s Sandpiper, which I could not relocate for a photo.

Roseate Tern
Sooty Tern
Brown Noddy
Short-eared Owl
Lesser Nighthawk
Chuck-will s-widow
Gray Kingbird
European Starling a first for me at the Dry Tortugas.

Blue-winged Warbler
Cape May Warbler
CERULEAN WARBLER
Prothonotary Warbler
Worm-eating Warbler
Kentucky Warbler

Summer Tanager
Scarlet Tanager

Rose-breasted Grosbeak
Blue Grosbeak
Indigo Bunting
Painted Bunting
Bobolink
Shiny Cowbird
House Sparrow this guy is still hanging around.

My April 16-19 tour had a few less birds with still some good numbers of warbler 19-species and 84 species total. We had a lot of the same species as above with a few new ones.

Red-footed Booby there was a possible sighting on Iowa Rock Channel marker. The throttle on the boat had to be wired open so turning around was a big problem. By the time I was able to get a look all that I could make out were Brown Boobies, darn boat!

American Golden Plover
Roseate Tern
BARN OWL new for me at the Dry Tortugas.
BURROWING OWL I think this was the second time for me here.
CERULEAN WARBLER made his last showing departing on our second day there.

Murray Gardler is leading my next 3-tours so I expect to hear from him tomorrow, if he has some new sightings I will let the list know. I will be home for another couple of days to recover from the last trips; I will be out there for my last two trips.

I have included a photo of the Mississippi Kite a new documented record for the Dry Tortugas. There was a kettle of them years ago on Loggerhead Key, which is where we saw this bird.

I STILL HAVE TWO SPACES AVAILABLE AT A REDUCED RATE FOR MY APRIL 25-28 TOUR AND MY APRIL 28-MAY 1 DRY TORTUGAS. This space is for a male birder, if interested please e-mail me ASAP, as I will be going out of town soon.

I have donated a free trip for Tropical Audubon s Birdathon from Miami for the second year in a row, please click here for more information: http://tropicalaudubon.org/BT.html The Birdathon is a great way to raise funds to help conserve what we still have left!
