I checked for the Red-headed Woodpecker at Matheson Hammock County Park this morning. I quickly relocated it feeding in the row of Royal Palms along the dirt trail that runs west of the intersection mentioned in previous posts (the intersection just north of the police station). Also in the area were many Gray Catbirds, House Wrens, and Common Yellowthroats. I then drove to the picnic area of Matheson, just east of Old Cutler Road. I hoped to relocate the Blue-winged Warbler discovered on Sunday by Carlos. I did not find the Blue-winged, but did see three mixed flocks of migrating/wintering passerines. Among eleven warbler species seen, Black-throated Green Warbler (3) was "the best".

A midday stop at Cutler Wetlands yielded the two bird species I stopped by for: American Avocet (3) and a single Gadwall. Long-billed Dowitchers, both yellowlegs, Mottled Duck and Blue-winged Teal were present along with more common species.

On the way home, I stopped at A.D. Barnes, where I saw twelve species of warblers, with the more notable species being Tennessee and Magnolia.

I ended up with fourteen warbler species for the day, and a county bird in the Red-headed Woodpecker (#293).
