Around 1:15 p.m. today I was in my backyard picking avocados when I heard a familiar song. A beautiful Spot-breasted Oriole was seen in the top of my Firebush/Wild Lime Trees. I followed it to the front where it landed in the Senna Polyphylla Tree. Then I stood across the street in front of my neighbors house and it flew to the Bottlebrush Tree right beside me. I watched it feed from the Bottlebrush blooms for about 5-8 min. before it flew away. The black on the breast was prominent along with scattered spotting on the sides. This is the third sighting of this species in the last several weeks. I will continue to observe to see if this is a pattern or just coincidence.
