The dirt road is on the opposite side of old cutler from the entrance to Fairchild. There is a big dirt parking lot (don't leave any valuables in the car). There is a sign "nature trail or natural area to the right of the entrance and there is a barrier bar that is usually open. Go down that dirt road until you come out to a opening. You will walk towards the paved road. The paved road goes left or right and then going straight forwards there is another dirt road. You will see telephone poles and a dead palm tree with lots of holes in it. The dirt road or path lead along side it. The woodpecker is flying around this area or a little further up the dirt path/road. To the right of the path there are also large poles, he could be on any one of them. He was not too shy, great opportunity for pictures if he is still there. There are also a pilated woodpecker and two great horned owls in the area.
If you go right on the paved road, you will see a large natural open area on your right side. There are is a singular tree in the middle of it. The owl have been sight there and also across from that area. When there was only one I found the roosting place of it..but they must have changed it due to all the commotion with the dogs.
