While driving to get my son from half day of school, Angel sent a text message about the Fork-tailed Flycatcher. That was great timing as I was able to pick my son up and head straight down to Big Pine Key. When we arrived, Rafael had already been looking for the bird but could not find it. He left, Philip and I looked around the area and found the bird about 4:00 p.m. or so. The bird was originally found by Adam and Gina Kent by the Big Pine Key Fishing Lodge at mile marker 33 and US1. It was seen along the power lines in this area. We found the bird at the Key West Visitor Center at mile marker 31 on the right side of US1 heading towards Key West. The bird was way up high on the highest power lines just east of the visitor center.

If the bird stays around for tomorrow, it would be a good idea to drive from the Big Pine Key Fishing Lodge all of the way to the Key West Visitor Center to search for it. It was seen with a Gray Kingbird, Eastern Kingbird and a Scissor-tailed Flycatcher, but not at the same time.

These birds are known to be one day wonders, I sure hope this one stays longer.
