Nancy Freedman and I birded Shark Valley for a couple of hours this morning. Just past the entrance to the Otter Cave Trail we found a Sora. Just a little farther south, just after the vegetation on the outside (west) of the path gets taller again (but before the Otter Cave exit), we found a Virginia Rail. The area containing the Virginia has two connected puddles aligned EW, in the taller vegetation. The Virginia was foraging in the mud around and between the puddles.

While we were watching, the Virginia had to defend its feeding area from another Virginia Rail. Shortly thereafter, we checked the spot again, and found a Sora where the Virginia had been.

After Shark Valley, we checked the old airboat ride to the west, and found 1 Limpkin and a number of Snail Kites (as expected).
