Evidently the NNW wind overnight brought in 2 Huge surprises .
I am almost positive I saw a West. Kingbird at Hugh Taylor Birch S.P. this afternoon. Gray head , pale olive-green back, yellow belly. When the bird flycaught the outer tail feathers were White and quite obvious. The bird was associating with 6 Gray Kingbirds high in a scraggly dead Casiuarainus snag over the trail at the north end of the park.Although I am not greatly familiar with this specie I am farly certain of the i.d..last seen @ 14:45hrs edt
The i.d. of the Scissor-Tails is certain and quite a bit easier.I first spotted the juv. , or fem., high in the southernmost Casiuarainus at Everegreen Cemetery .I let out a "jeepers or golly gee " or maybe something somewhat more colorful and wholly inappropriate for a cemetery especially when accompanied by fist-pumps.The bird then made a "pip" call and went after another bird in the Virginia creeper."Hokey Smoke " I exclaimed when an adult ( beautiful bird)popped out into the afternoon sun .The first bird had a faint salmon wash on the lower belly .The 2nd bird had quite a lot of color. last seen 17:00hrs edt.I know both of these species are fairly regular in so.Dade and maybe western Broward Co. but they are highly unusual in east Broward Co..
