It has been a busy spring with many good birds sighted, I will give a run down of what I have seen in the last 11-days.

Starting on March 31 to April 4, I birded all over South Florida finding all of the Florida specialties including a couple of rarities:

White-tailed Kite
Snail Kite
Short-tailed Hawk
White-crowned Pigeon
Monk Parakeet
White-winged Parakeet
Yellow-chevroned Parakeet
MANGROVE CUCKOO
SMOOTH-BILLED ANI
GROVE-BILLED ANI
BUFF-BELLIED HUMMINGBIRD
Western Kingbird
Gray Kingbird
Black-whiskered Vireo
Cave Swallow
Red-whiskered Bulbul
17-species of warbler
Bachman s Sparrow
SHINY COWBIRD
BRONZED COWBIRD
Spot-breasted Oriole

My first Dry Tortugas Tour April 4-7 was fairly slow but still had some good birds.

Masked Booby
Brown Booby
Roseate Tern
Sooty Tern
Brown Noddy
AMERICAN GOLDEN-PLOVER
Gray Kingbird
Cave Swallow
Black-whiskered Vireo
SHORT-EARED OWL (West Indies race)

We scored BIG on my April 7-10 Dry Tortugas Tour. While at the dock on Stock Island we watched a really good lighting storm approach from far off in the distance. I got tired of watching it and went to sleep; finally the rains came with more lighting and thunder that lasted for quite some time. I knew then that the Dry Tortugas were going to be loaded with birds!! We traveled through some rough seas the next morning traveling out to deep water for pelagic birds. We saw many good species and good numbers of them. Once we arrived at Fort Jefferson we were treated to large numbers of migrants. Here is a list of some of the less common ones:

Audubon s Shearwater
Masked Booby
Brown Booby
Northern Gannet
Magnificent Frigatebird
5-species of raptor
13-species of shorebird
Roseate Tern
Sooty Tern
Brown Noddy
BLACK NODDY
Yellow-billed Cuckoo
LESSER NIGHTHAWK (Thanks Brennan)
Common Nighthawk
Eastern Wood-Pewee
Acadian Flycatcher
Eastern Kingbird about 150 to 200 birds!
Gray Kingbird
Purple Martin
Tree Swallow
Northern Rough-winged Swallow
Bank Swallow
Cliff Swallow
Cave Swallow
Barn Swallow
Swainson s Thrush
Wood Thrush
23-SPECIES OF WARBLER, I listed the better ones!
Blue-winged Warbler
CERULEAN WARBLER
Pronthonotary Warbler
Worm-eating Warbler
SWAINSON S WARBLER
Kentucky Warbler
House Sparrow, I know but it is not very common at the Dry Tortugas.

We had 102 species for this last Dry Tortugas and 191 species for the 11-days! The Dry Tortugas Tour was spectacular with large numbers of many species.

I have six more Dry Tortugas trips and one 5-day land tour so I will give updates when I am able to.
